In the past, almost every type of retail business displayed a wide array of colorful, clever signs and displays to catch the consumer`s eye.

Today such charming store collectibles are in demand. Those hooked on such items search nook and cranny in shops, at shows and anywhere old things are offered in hopes of finding interesting pieces.

If you`re contemplating collecting store items, make sure you have enough room to display pieces-sizes range from tiny to tremendous. Those with cramped quarters or a mate who can`t stand clutter may want to settle for miniature store displays and stock with which to fill play shops.

A collection of old, little stores-ranging from grocery to butcher shops- look divine when placed on shelves in country-furnished kitchens or dens.

The jukebox made its first appearance on Nov. 23, 1889, in the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco. Called Nickel-in-the-Slot, it had no amplifier or speakers but individual listening tubes through which a customer could hear a two-minute recording after depositing a coin.
